Odd Jobs

Over the past few weeks, I've been trying to finish up some odd jobs around the house so I can get onto bigger and better things (like what, I don't know but I swear they will be more exciting). I desperately needed cushions for our side porch waffle chairs, as one more day of sitting on the grate-like seats would leave my ass looking permanently like a potato masher.

I found these drug-rug looking cushions at the thrift store for 50 cents each. They fit perfectly in the awkwardly shaped seats so I decided to make some simple covers for them. I'm the shittiest sewer around so I made them nice and easy so I could get it over with as soon as possible.

Of course, that was a bit of a challenge with Badooda lying on the fabric as it went through the machine helping me. But how could I get mad at this guy for getting in the way of my rage sewing?

Besides, he is an artist in his own right and deserves to be a part of every creative process.

So yea, here they are in all of their simple glory, ready for the cats to sleep on all summer long.

And then we have the never ending ongoing repairs of our old barn. When we first moved in, we had to have it straightened and reinforced as it was sagging pretty badly to one side (can a barn have a stroke?). Since then, we have also replaced some barn board, rebuilt the side door and filled in holes and broken windows. Now we're taking it up a notch and replacing all the fascia boards and eaves underneath. Once that is done this summer we have to rebuild the rotten front doors in the fall. I should add that when I say we, I am really saying Lee because I have done fuck all construction wise. I am as useless at construction as I am at sewing.

But I do know how to paint the windows black so they match the house and I'm especially good at telling Lee what I'd like to fix and he just magically does it (the drugs and hypnosis I keep sneaking into him are working well).

He's doing a pretty damn fine job so far, especially since this is his first construction project. He's not done (as you can see) but he's made a really huge dent in this old fart and by summer's end it should be looking pretty swell.

We'll likely never be able to fix that saggy roof but as long as we take care of the worst of the rotten sections I think we will salvage this geriatric building for many decades to come.
